Frustrated Voters...

Posted by rawb1t - May 15th, 2015

I know that most of you, who played my game - Roomryder - are pissed off, by it's difficulty. But do you really want to play super easy pussy-games, just to reach medals and points?

I don't think so.

A game should always be a challenge and YES my game is a challenge. I know that it is frustrating to lose but that is a part of gaming too! Is it actually more fun to play easy and nice games with no real challenges in them?

However, I stuck much of my time (a whole day! ;)) in the gameplay and design and I always tried to make it better after every review I got so far. So, please, be fair when you vote for it. Thanks.

UPDATE:

For everyone who thinks that the original Roomryder is too hard: I just releasted Roomryder [Stage Version]!

So.... it's a rage game?

A little bit ;)

Yes, I like piss-easy pussy-games.
I think most people rate Roomryder low because the lack of clearness for how to play the game. I see no reason for why I must keep the cursor at the bottom of the game screen. Making it move along mouseY pos for the whole X axis cannot be too hard and I am sure the game would get better grades then. Those red and green lights would be to much more use if it lit red when the cursor is close to the edge and not only outside.

I am pretty sure that no hitboxes extends their image. It is just that the hitboxes seems to move faster than the images. Both for the character and for the walls. This may also get misstaken by many that thinks the hitboxes are too big. People would probably not notice much of this if you make the hitboxes slightly smaller than the images. A tip for you players is to stay close to the lower wall that you move away from.

I see in the reviews that you already have made the walls wider, but since you also made this news post about "Frustrated Voters", another tip would also be to make the game more calming. Like make sections with walls so players could rest between the sections. I am very calm myself but some people with stress issues may find it hard to focus on the smooth movements for so long.

On the plus side.
The gameplay was very calm otherwise, though having that nuclear plot. Without sudden changes that requires fast reactions. Smooth movements. Repetitive patterns.

The graphics are really nice. Fancy animation with the walls entering from the sides. Well animated screen changes. The character turns red after collision instead of starting over directly.

The game was not CPU intensive. I have a pretty old computer and most games on Newgrounds lags too much for me. This game did run at around 8% and did not lag at all.

To top all this I am also the proud first owner of the "Bronze" medal -- a great birthday present for me!

I would not write a this long review because all my long reviews get deleted.

I am only pissed off by one thing: every single time I get a score I think I can be proud of - then @Josef-Eliasson (wonder if @ works also in news posts?) comes out, makes his score and make me feel miserable. At least I grabbed the second bronze medal first :-)

As Josef said: Don't feel miserable! I am going to release tons of other games where you can own the first place on the highscore! I am glad that you (and Josef) like my game that much :) Gives me a good feeling! :)

@HerbieG
Do not feel miserable! Just think of everyone you beat!

Have you tried to play in fullscreen?(I press F11 and scroll the page down so the game window bottom is at the screen bottom) Then you can keep the cursor at the bottom of the screen without worrying about losing control. :P

When I first ran the stage version it ran very slow on my computer but now is runs at normal pace. It is still much more CPU intensive than the original though.

Thanks again SickMachine for the stage version!

You're welcome! I am glad you all like the new version! But, at least, the ratings speak another language ... i guess, I can not make the perfect version for everyone. Working on another game right now. Be prepared! :)

@Josef-Eliasson:
Everybody except one! ;-) But I can forgive you that since thanks to you I entered the Medal list, because you let H-O-S know about me and others.

About your idea: it isn't rather a problem for me in keeping the cursor on the station, only sometimes it goes a bit too high. My problem or rather problems are the microlags I am sometimes experiencing. Sometimes I am able to recover and successfully take another turn, but more often it costs me a "game over", so I am fighting not only the game, but also my computer. The game isn't so CPU-intense, so it is probably my CPU's problem, since it already is some years old.

A suggestion for SickMachine: maybe a change quality button?
